Two women robbed in daytime attacks in West Town

Daytime Robberies Shake West Town Neighborhood

Two women fell victim to separate but potentially related daytime muggings in West Town on Sunday, sparking concern among residents and law enforcement officials.

The first incident occurred near the intersection of Kinzie and Green, where a group of at least three assailants assaulted a woman and forcefully took her purse around 10:40 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing the robbers fleeing the scene in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with a noisy muffler.

A Chicago Police Department license plate reader later identified the same Jeep in the 1500 block of West Division Street around 12:20 p.m. Just ten minutes after this sighting, another woman was targeted in a robbery less than a half-mile away.

The second victim, a 42-year-old woman, was walking along the sidewalk in the 1000 block of North Paulina Street when a thin Black male wearing a black hoodie and gray shirt pushed her to the ground and stole her purse, according to CPD reports.

Robberies have been a persistent issue in West Town neighborhoods, particularly during the pandemic, with waves of robbery sprees plaguing the area for nearly three years. However, there has been a notable decrease in such incidents this year, with robberies down by at least 40% in the two police districts that oversee the region.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities to help prevent further crimes in the community.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the quality of information provided at local Community Policing meetings. Over the years, our coverage area has expanded to include various North Side neighborhoods, with a continued focus on delivering accurate and detailed public safety reporting.
