U.S. Soccer Star Dishes On ‘Weird’ Oval Office Moment With Trump
Timothy Weah, a star player for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team, shared his experience of standing behind President Donald Trump in the Oval Office during a recent visit with his Juventus teammates. The players were at the White House for a promotional event for the FIFA Club World Cup, but found themselves in an uncomfortable position as Trump fielded questions on political matters such as the Iran-Israel war and transgender women in sports.
Despite being at the event for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Trump shifted the focus to more pressing issues, leaving the players feeling out of place. Weah, the son of former Liberian soccer star and president George Weah, later revealed that they were required to attend the event, with no choice in the matter.
Reflecting on the experience, Weah expressed his surprise and discomfort, stating that he simply wanted to focus on football. “When he started talking about politics with Iran, it’s kind of like, I just want to play football, man,” he told reporters.
