UAB football player arrested after allegedly stabbing two teammates

A shocking incident unfolded at the University of Alabama at Birmingham football team’s facility on Saturday, as a redshirt freshman lineman, Daniel Israel Mincey, allegedly stabbed two of his teammates. The disturbing event led to Mincey’s arrest and booking at Jefferson County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder. However, authorities have not officially confirmed Mincey as the suspect in the stabbing.

The two injured players were swiftly transported to UAB Hospital and are currently in stable condition. While the school has refrained from disclosing the names of those involved, UAB Police and Public Safety are actively investigating the assault that took place at the Football Operations Center. Thankfully, the school assured that the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening and that the suspect is in custody, ensuring there is no further threat to the campus.

The incident transpired around 10 a.m., casting a dark shadow over the UAB football program. Despite the turmoil, UAB proceeded with their scheduled game against South Florida at Protective Stadium, ultimately suffering a 48-18 defeat. The decision to continue with the game was made by the team, with UAB emphasizing that the safety and well-being of their students remain their top priority. Due to patient privacy and the ongoing investigation, the school refrained from providing further comments at the time.

Interestingly, Mincey had previously been a part of Kentucky’s roster in 2024, where he appeared in one game before transferring to UAB for the 2025 season. The shocking turn of events has left the UAB community in disbelief as they grapple with the aftermath of the incident. As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to come to light, shedding further light on this harrowing incident.
