Ukraine and allies ready for ‘full unconditional’ 30-day ceasefire starting Monday, foreign minister says

LONDON — Ukraine and Allies Call for 30-Day Ceasefire with Russia

Ukraine and its allies have proposed a full unconditional ceasefire with Russia for at least 30 days starting on Monday, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The ceasefire would cover land, air, and sea operations in an effort to pave the way for peace negotiations.

The European Union has voiced its support for the ceasefire proposal, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stating that the ball is now in Russia’s court. She emphasized the need for the ceasefire to be implemented without preconditions to facilitate meaningful peace talks. Additionally, the EU is prepared to impose further sanctions on Russia if the ceasefire is breached.

The United Kingdom, France, and Germany, with the backing of the United States, are also urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept the 30-day ceasefire. They have warned that failure to comply will result in increased sanctions on Moscow and heightened military support for Ukraine.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on Putin to demonstrate his commitment to peace by extending the current pause in fighting into a full, unconditional ceasefire. He emphasized the collective effort among Western allies to hold Putin accountable for his actions.
