Unhinged NYC woman busted in fatal beating of sleeping hospital roommate
A Bronx hospital patient, Raquel Haughton, was arrested this week for allegedly beating her roommate, Cynthia Vann, to death in an unprovoked attack last month. Haughton, 44, was charged with manslaughter and felony assault after allegedly punching Vann multiple times at Lincoln Medical Center. Vann had checked into the hospital for liver treatment on September 10 and tragically succumbed to her injuries on September 27.
Haughton has a history of violent behavior, including a prior arrest for assaulting a nurse at the same hospital on July 19. She was also arrested for slapping a patient aide and for petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in Manhattan. Additionally, Haughton spent two years in state prison for attempted assault.
Despite her violent history, Haughton was released on bail multiple times, including a recent incident where a judge ordered her release over prosecutors’ objections. This raises concerns about the handling of her case and the potential risks posed by her release.
The family of Cynthia Vann is devastated by her senseless death, with her daughter, Taneisha Vann, expressing her grief and shock at the tragedy. Vann’s family and loved ones are seeking justice for her death and hoping that Haughton will be held accountable for her actions.
As the investigation into the attack on Cynthia Vann continues, authorities are looking into Haughton’s past behavior and criminal record to determine the full extent of her violent tendencies. The case highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and security of patients in healthcare facilities and the need for proper measures to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
