‘Unhone video call kiya tha’

In a recent interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit Sharma shared an intriguing anecdote about his interaction with MS Dhoni after India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. Currently representing the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2025 season, Rohit reminisced about the memorable moment.

Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies. During the interview, Rohit was asked about his exchange with MS Dhoni following the historic win. He disclosed that he received a message from Dhoni congratulating him on the victory, to which he promptly replied. Furthermore, Rohit revealed that Dhoni had video-called the team while they were in the West Indies to extend his wishes.

“Unka message aya tha jeetne ke baad. Reply kiya maine. Unhone video call kiya tha actually. Team mai kisiko video call kiya tha jab hum udhar the West Indies mai. Unhone video call mai thumbs up kiya (I got his message after the win and replied. He had video called us actually. He video called someone from the team when we were there in the West Indies. He made a thumbs up gesture in the video call),” Rohit fondly recalled.

As Rohit Sharma continues to shine for MI in the IPL 2025 season, MS Dhoni leads the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) once again. Despite a few setbacks, Rohit has amassed 300 runs from 11 matches for MI at an average of 30 and a commendable strike-rate of 152.28. With three half-centuries under his belt, Rohit has been a key player for his team.

On the other hand, CSK faced early elimination from the tournament and currently languish at the bottom of the table with three wins and six points from 12 games. Dhoni, with 180 runs from 12 matches at an average of 25.71 and a strike-rate of 140.62, has been trying to steer his team through a challenging season.
