United Airlines Implements New Policy to Reduce Cabin Noise

United Airlines has recently introduced a new policy aimed at minimizing noise in its aircraft cabins, while still allowing passengers to enjoy their personal electronic devices. The airline has updated its contract of carriage, which outlines its rules and regulations, to now require all travelers to wear headphones when using any audio-emitting device. Failure to comply with this rule may result in removal from the flight and potential future bans from flying with United.

According to the revised contract of carriage, any passenger listening to music, watching videos, or engaging in any activity that produces sound must use headphones. United reserves the right to refuse transport, permanently, to individuals who do not adhere to this rule. This is a unique policy among major U.S. airlines, as most carriers encourage headphone usage but do not explicitly state consequences for non-compliance.

Travel expert Scott Keyes commented on the new policy, stating that it aligns with the expectations of the majority of travelers. He mentioned that only a small number of passengers typically cause disturbances by not using headphones, and United’s approach is a tactful way to address this issue.

United also offers a solution for passengers who forget their headphones. The airline’s website states that in some cases, customers can request free earbuds if they are available. This proactive measure aims to ensure a more peaceful and enjoyable flying experience for all passengers.
