United Airlines will return to JFK with several daily flights in a deal with JetBlue

United Airlines is set to make a comeback at JFK International Airport in collaboration with JetBlue, marking their return after a two-year absence. Through this partnership, JetBlue will provide United access to slots at JFK for up to seven daily round-trip flights starting in 2027. JetBlue, known for running approximately 180 daily flights out of JFK, will now be sharing their space with United.
United’s last departure from JFK was in 2022, making this return a significant milestone for the airline. The decision comes at a time when the Federal Aviation Administration has extended flight limits at Newark Airport due to air traffic controller shortages and technical issues, affecting United’s operations at their hub in Newark.
In a strategic move, United and JetBlue have reached an agreement named Blue Sky, where they will exchange eight flight timings at Newark. This partnership will not only benefit the airlines but also their customers. With the exchange of flight timings, customers will have more options for travel, and loyalty program members will enjoy additional perks and benefits.
JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty expressed her excitement about the collaboration, highlighting how United’s global reach complements JetBlue’s East Coast leisure network. This partnership will offer TrueBlue members more travel options and benefits, regardless of their destination.
Customers flying with either airline will have access to both loyalty programs, earning and redeeming miles seamlessly. Additionally, both JetBlue and United will feature each other’s flights on their websites and apps, providing customers with more choices and convenience.
United CEO Scott Kirby emphasized the value this collaboration brings to MileagePlus members, offering them new ways to utilize their miles and find flights that suit their schedules. Despite the partnership, both airlines will continue to manage and price their networks independently, ensuring the launch of new routes, frequencies, and promotions.
Following the announcement, shares of both airlines saw a positive response in the market. The collaboration between United and JetBlue not only signifies a strategic move for the airlines but also promises enhanced benefits and options for travelers in the future.
