Up to $7,500 To Be Handed Out to Victims of Massive Cyberattack on Healthcare Firm

NextGen Healthcare, a US healthcare firm, has agreed to a court-approved settlement to compensate victims of a recent cyberattack that exposed patients’ private data. The cyberattack took place in March and April 2023, leading to NextGen Healthcare facing allegations of failing to adequately protect patient information. As part of the settlement, victims may receive up to $7,500 each to cover unreimbursed costs incurred as a result of the data breach.

The settlement fund will be utilized to reimburse victims for expenses directly linked to the cyberattack, with a cap of $7,500 per individual. The victims have accused NextGen Healthcare of neglecting their duties to safeguard personal information, maintaining inadequate data security measures, and violating state consumer statutes and other laws. The breach was discovered on April 28, 2023, when a third-party criminal attacker gained unauthorized access to patient data.

The victims continue to experience the repercussions of having their sensitive data, including social security numbers, compromised. They have incurred out-of-pocket expenses for purchasing credit monitoring services, credit freezes, and other protective measures to prevent identity theft and fraud.
