US, Israel launch attack on Iran after regime refuses to scrap nuclear program: report
The United States and Israel have launched airstrikes against Iran in response to the regime’s refusal to dismantle its nuclear program after failed negotiations. President Trump warned Tehran of consequences if a deal was not reached, leading to the airstrikes on Saturday morning.
In an eight-minute video address, Trump stated that the objective of the airstrikes was to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime. The attacks targeted military infrastructure to reduce the Iranian threat to military personnel.
The airstrikes were not limited to Iran, as other enclaves such as Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah were also hit. The US airstrikes, conducted by air and sea, were described as significant and aimed at reducing the Iranian threat.
Neighboring Iraq closed its airspace as a precautionary measure following the airstrikes. Iranian officials warned of retaliatory strikes, with a promise of a “crushing” response.
Israel suspended public activities and declared only emergency services would be operational. Sirens sounded throughout Israel as a precautionary measure, alerting the public of potential retaliatory strikes.
President Trump had given Iranian officials a deadline to reach a nuclear deal, warning of severe consequences if an agreement was not reached. The US assault on Iran marked the first American-led strikes since Operation Midnight Hammer last June.
The military buildup in the region included the deployment of two carrier strike groups, Navy destroyers, and fighter jets with stealth capabilities. The US had also moved fighter jets to Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.
Tensions between the US and Iran escalated following a crackdown on anti-regime protesters in Iran, leading to discussions about potential military action. The regime’s violent response to protesters calling for change in the country’s economy resulted in as many as 30,000 deaths.
The situation remains fluid, with ongoing developments expected. Please stay tuned for updates on this evolving story.
