Utah construction worker Nate Peterson attacked by black bear in Bryce Woodlands

A construction worker in Utah narrowly escaped a terrifying encounter with a massive black bear while working at a campsite in Bryce Woodlands. Nate Peterson, 43, found himself face to face with a 300-pound bear who suddenly attacked him, pinning him on a cot.

Peterson described the bear as a “son of a bitch” who aggressively approached him while he was minding his own business. The bear jumped on his bed, bit his arm, and chased him down despite Peterson’s attempts to defend himself by throwing objects at the bear. Peterson, who was hospitalized after the attack, shared that the experience was unlike anything he had ever faced before.

Despite having encountered docile black bears in the past, Peterson was shocked by the aggressive behavior of this particular bear. He recalled three previous encounters where the bears simply walked away after spotting him. This time, however, the bear was relentless in its pursuit.

After escaping the bear, Peterson called his wife, Anna, who initially thought he was joking about the attack. She rushed to meet him at the hospital, where he was being treated for his injuries. Wildlife officials later located and euthanized the bear to prevent any further incidents.

Reflecting on his harrowing experience, Peterson advised others to never give up and to fight back if faced with a bear. The courageous survivor’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant in bear country and being prepared to defend oneself in the face of danger.
