A Virginia Councilman Attacked and Set on Fire in Shocking Incident
In a disturbing turn of events, a Virginia councilman was targeted in a horrific attack on Wednesday when he was set on fire by a suspect identified as Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes. The victim, Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler, 38, was confronted by Hayes at his office at Showcase Magazine, where the assailant doused him with a flammable liquid before igniting it, as reported by the Danville Police Department.
The altercation escalated as both individuals moved outside, where Hayes proceeded to set Vogler on fire. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition, with reports indicating that he sustained serious burn injuries, according to Showcase Magazine.

Hayes, a 29-year-old resident of Danville, was apprehended by law enforcement following the incident. After fleeing the scene, he was intercepted by officers a few blocks away, according to police sources.
Investigations suggest that Vogler and Hayes shared a personal connection, and the attack was motivated by a private matter unrelated to the councilman’s political affiliations or role in the Danville City Council, authorities stated.
Vogler, who became a council member in 2012 at the age of 24, also serves as the director of sales at Showcase Magazine, where the violent incident took place.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this act of violence,” expressed Showcase Magazine in a released statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Lee and his family as he receives medical care. The Showcase Magazine team is fully cooperating with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.”
