Wallet Of Satoshi Partners With Spark To Offer Self-Custodial Bitcoin Lightning Experience

Spark Announces Integration with Wallet of Satoshi for Self-Custodial Lightning Experience

Today, Spark has unveiled a new partnership with Wallet of Satoshi, a prominent Bitcoin Lightning Network (LN) wallet, to offer users a fully self-custodial Lightning experience in beta, as per a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine.

“From the outset, Spark felt like the missing puzzle piece,” expressed Wallet of Satoshi. “It provided us with the groundwork to delve into self-custody seriously – simplifying the intricate aspects of self-custody so we could concentrate on enhancing user experience.”

This self-custodial feature empowers customers to have complete control over their Bitcoin holdings. In November 2024, Wallet of Satoshi withdrew its app from the U.S. Apple and Google app stores for undisclosed reasons, likely due to regulatory challenges faced by Lightning wallets at the time. With the evolving regulatory environment in the U.S., Wallet of Satoshi believes that this integration will enable them to re-enter and cater to the U.S. market.

During the development of its self-custodial Lightning wallet, Wallet of Satoshi encountered obstacles such as liquidity requirements, node complexity, and channel management costs, hindering the creation of a truly self-custodial LN wallet. However, Spark has provided a solution to overcome these challenges.

“We designed Spark precisely to address this exact issue,” explained the company. “Spark eliminates all the complexities for wallets seeking to incorporate Lightning. You won’t need to set up channels, worry about routing, pre-fund liquidity, or even manage nodes. Developing a Lightning wallet on Spark only requires 6 lines of code.”

Spark has committed to introducing new features as the product evolves, and those interested in participating in the beta can express their interest by commenting on their X post.

On May 22, Breez and Spark joined forces to launch a revamped version of the Breez SDK, leveraging Spark’s Bitcoin-native Layer 2 infrastructure. The SDK offers support for LNURL, Lightning addresses, real-time mobile notifications, and includes bindings for all major programming languages and frameworks. This collaboration equips developers with tools to integrate Bitcoin payment capabilities into apps used for social app monetization, cross-border remittances, and in-game currencies.

Prior to this, Spark also teamed up with Magic Eden to enhance Bitcoin trading by addressing issues like slow transaction speeds, high fees, and subpar user experience. The integration introduced a native settlement system aimed at expediting transactions and reducing costs, without the need for bridges or synthetic assets.
