Walmart and Google announced a new partnership that will allow shoppers to utilize Google’s AI assistant Gemini to enhance their shopping experience at Walmart and Sam’s Club.

During the National Retail Federation’s Big Show, Walmart’s incoming CEO John Furner and Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai revealed the collaboration, emphasizing the integration of AI technology to streamline the shopping process for customers. The feature is set to launch initially in the U.S. before expanding globally.

With this move, Walmart aims to cater to the changing preferences of consumers who are increasingly relying on AI-driven solutions for their shopping needs. This initiative follows Walmart’s previous partnership with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and the introduction of “Instant Checkout,” enabling seamless purchases through AI chatbots. The company’s AI chatbot, Sparky, also plays a significant role in enhancing customer interactions.

Both Furner and Pichai highlighted the significance of AI in revolutionizing the retail landscape, emphasizing the importance of adapting to evolving consumer behaviors. Walmart’s digital strategy is evolving to align with the shift towards AI-driven shopping experiences, enabling customers to find products more efficiently and conveniently.

Furthermore, Walmart’s leadership acknowledges the broader implications of AI on the workforce, with CEO Doug McMillon emphasizing the transformative impact of technology on various job roles. As Walmart continues to innovate and embrace AI technologies, it is poised to redefine the retail industry’s future.
