Waylee’s 97-yard TD part of Virginia’s record 700 yards offense in 55-16 win over William & Mary
The University of Virginia Cavaliers put on a dominating performance as they defeated William & Mary 55-16 in a record-breaking game on Saturday. The Cavaliers set a program record with 700 total yards of offense, surpassing their previous record of 691 yards set in 1968 against Davidson.
Harrison Waylee was the standout player of the game, rushing for 151 yards and scoring three touchdowns, including a school-record 97-yard run. Quarterback Chandler Morris also had a solid performance, throwing for 149 yards and a touchdown pass to tight end John Rogers.
The Cavaliers were in control from the start, taking a commanding lead in the first half and eventually playing the second half with their backups. William & Mary quarterback Noah Brannock put up a fight, throwing for 111 yards and adding a touchdown on the ground.
Despite a long touchdown pass from Tyler Hughes to Deven Thompson in the second quarter, William & Mary struggled to keep up with Virginia’s high-powered offense. The Tribe’s missed opportunities, including a dropped pass in the end zone and several three-and-outs, allowed the Cavaliers to extend their lead.
Virginia’s head coach, Tony Elliott, improved his record to 4-0 against FCS opponents with the win. The Cavaliers have now won seven consecutive games against in-state rival William & Mary.
Looking ahead, William & Mary will host Charleston Southern in their home opener next Saturday, while Virginia will face Stanford in their ACC opener. The Cavaliers will aim to build on their impressive performance and continue their winning streak in the upcoming games.
Overall, Virginia’s record-breaking victory showcased their strength on both sides of the ball and solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in college football.
