White House reveals new ‘DOGE leaders’ now that Elon Musk is gone

Following the departure of tech mogul Elon Musk from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), President Trump and his Cabinet officials have taken on the responsibility of leading the initiative to cut waste, fraud, and abuse in the government. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the new leadership structure, emphasizing the commitment of the entire Cabinet to the mission of DOGE.
Musk, who had been serving as a special government employee, is now focusing on his businesses, including Tesla. His deputy at DOGE, Steve Davis, has also left his role due to time limitations for special government employees. Amy Gleason has been appointed as the acting administrator for US DOGE Services.
Despite Musk’s departure, Leavitt assured that the talent he brought on board is expected to remain in place. The entire Cabinet is now involved in leading DOGE, with each Cabinet secretary working towards cutting government waste. The mission of DOGE is set to continue with the support of political appointees at various agencies.
DOGE had garnered support from conservatives, particularly fiscal hawks in Congress. However, recent developments, such as the advancement of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, have raised concerns about undermining the progress of DOGE. Musk expressed disappointment with the spending bill, stating that it increases the budget deficit and undermines the work of the DOGE team.
Despite claims of saving over $175 billion in spending, DOGE’s savings have been disputed, with analyses questioning the accuracy of the figures. OpenTheBooks, a government transparency organization, found that a significant portion of DOGE’s claims could not be verified.
In response to criticisms, House Speaker Mike Johnson reaffirmed plans to enshrine DOGE cuts into law. The future of DOGE and its impact on government spending remain uncertain as new leadership takes the reins and navigates the challenges ahead.
