White House unveils U.S. strategic plan on AI. Here’s what it includes.

The Trump administration unveiled an AI Action Plan on Wednesday with the goal of maintaining U.S. dominance in the artificial intelligence race. This initiative builds upon an executive order issued earlier this year, which removed AI guardrails imposed by the previous administration.

The comprehensive plan consists of over 90 federal policy actions, focusing on key areas such as supporting the construction of data centers, semiconductor fabrication plants, and upgrading the electric grid infrastructure. It also aims to address “ideological bias” in chatbots by establishing guidelines for government contracts and withholding funding from states with burdensome AI regulations.

Furthermore, federal agencies will be required to review and repeal any rules that hinder AI development. The plan also includes a program to deliver AI export packages to U.S. allies, which will encompass hardware, models, software, applications, and standards.

President Trump is expected to speak about the AI Action Plan and sign related executive orders at an AI summit in Washington, D.C. The plan has garnered support from the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and will be implemented over the next six months to a year.

The overarching goal of the plan is to ensure that the U.S. remains ahead of global competitors, particularly China, in the AI race. It emphasizes accelerating AI innovation, building out AI infrastructure, and leading in international AI diplomacy efforts.

Key components of the plan include expediting the construction of data centers and semiconductor fabrication plants, as well as modernizing the electric grid to support the energy demands of AI supercomputing. The plan also aims to address ideological bias in AI systems and ensure that they remain truth-seeking and trustworthy.

To maintain a competitive edge, the plan emphasizes the need to remove regulatory hurdles that impede AI innovation. This includes updating federal procurement guidelines to prioritize developers whose systems promote free speech expression.

Overall, the AI Action Plan underscores the importance of advancing AI technology in the U.S. to secure its position as a leader in the global AI landscape. By focusing on key infrastructure investments and regulatory reforms, the plan aims to propel the country forward in the AI race and maintain its technological superiority.
