Nearly 7.5 million Americans rely on Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, each month to help cover the essentials. However, in March, recipients may have noticed a change in their payment schedule, with benefits arriving earlier than usual.

SSI is a vital Social Security program that offers monthly support to low-income Americans who are blind or disabled, as well as elderly individuals aged 65 and above with limited resources. Due to the first of the month falling on a Sunday, the Social Security Administration (SSA) distributed March benefits ahead of schedule on Friday, Feb. 27. This adjustment is simply a result of the payment calendar and does not indicate a missing payment.

When were SSI checks for March 2026 issued?

Normally, SSI payments are disbursed on the first day of the month. However, when the first day falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the SSA moves the payment date to the previous business day. This scenario is not uncommon. For instance, February’s SSI checks were sent out on Friday, Jan. 30, as Feb. 1 was a Sunday. Similarly, January’s SSI payment was made on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, to accommodate New Year’s Day.

For March 2026, payments were made on Feb. 27 due to March 1 falling on a Sunday. If you are eligible for an SSI payment in March, you should have already received it. The next SSI check is scheduled for April 1.

Social Security payment schedule for March

Individuals receiving both SSI and Social Security benefits or those who began collecting Social Security before May 1997 will receive their Social Security payments on Tuesday, March 3, according to the standard SSA schedule.

Other Social Security beneficiaries will be paid in March based on their birth dates. Those born between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their check on March 11, while individuals born from the 11th to the 20th will get paid on March 18. Those with birthdays between the 21st and 31st will receive their payment on March 25.
