Widow, FDNY siblings of fallen firefighter Patrick Brady weep as bunting is put up at firehouse
The FDNY community is mourning the loss of firefighter Patrick Brady, who tragically passed away while battling a blaze in Brooklyn. The traditional bunting ceremony was held to honor his sacrifice, with Brady’s widow, siblings, and parents in attendance, shedding tears as they remembered their beloved hero.
Brady, a proud member of a veteran FDNY family, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest while on the roof of a burning building on Kings Highway. Colleagues described him as the “informal leader” of Ladder 120, where he was known for his dedication and love for his fellow firefighters.
FDNY Capt. Scott Coyne spoke highly of Brady, highlighting his exceptional leadership skills and his ability to brighten up any room. Brady’s cousin and uncle also served in the FDNY, carrying on a legacy of courage and dedication to the city of New York.
The bunting ceremony, a somber tradition for fallen firefighters, was a poignant moment to honor Brady’s memory. The black and purple mourning bunting draped along the firehouse served as a symbol of respect and gratitude for his service.
Andrew Ansbro, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, expressed his condolences to Brady’s family, acknowledging the profound impact his loss has had on the entire city. Brady’s dedication to his job and his unwavering commitment to serving others will always be remembered by those who knew him.
Brady’s passing marks the 1,163rd line-of-duty death in the FDNY’s history, a sobering reminder of the risks that firefighters face every day. His sacrifice, along with that of paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman earlier this year, serves as a reminder of the bravery and selflessness exhibited by the city’s first responders.
As the FDNY community continues to mourn the loss of one of their own, they also celebrate the life and legacy of firefighter Patrick Brady, a true hero who will never be forgotten.
