Widow of fire chief Corey Comperatore, who was killed in Trump assassination attempt, slams Secret Service as one-year anniversary nears
The tragic events that unfolded at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July left Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore, with a deep sense of loss and frustration towards the Secret Service. Corey, the former fire chief of Buffalo Township, was fatally shot by a bullet intended for President Trump, fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks during the rally.
In a recent interview with The Post, Helen expressed her disdain for the Secret Service, labeling them as “garbage” for their mishandling of the security operation that day. She questioned why the agency failed to prevent the assassination attempt in Butler, and demanded answers from the agents responsible for the lapse in security.
The botched response to the assassination attempt led to the resignation of then-Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle, and nearly a year later, six agents were suspended from duty for their role in the incident. Corey Comperatore, hailed as a hero by his sister Dawn Comperatore Schafer, sacrificed his life while shielding his daughter from the gunfire.
Helen, who described her late husband as a “wonderful man” who is deeply missed, has chosen to focus on cherishing every moment in life and letting go of anger, except towards the Secret Service. She emphasized the need for accountability and justice for Corey’s tragic death.
As the anniversary of Corey’s passing approaches, the family plans to hold a motorcycle ride and concert in his honor in Russellton, Pennsylvania. Helen expressed gratitude for a heartfelt letter she received from President Trump, offering support and solidarity during this difficult time.
The legacy of Corey Comperatore lives on through the love and memories shared by his family and community. As they gather to honor his memory, they hope to find closure and healing in the midst of this senseless tragedy.
