Matthew McConaughey Opens Up About Working with Woody Harrelson on “True Detective”
Matthew McConaughey recently made a guest appearance on Woody Harrelson and Ted Danson’s podcast, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name.” During the episode, Harrelson shared some behind-the-scenes stories from their time working together on the hit HBO series, “True Detective.”
Harrelson revealed that there were moments during filming when he wanted to “punch” McConaughey because of his intense method acting approach. He recalled how McConaughey fully immersed himself in his character, Rust Cohle, to the point where Harrelson felt frustrated with him on set.
McConaughey, on the other hand, explained that he needed to maintain a stoic demeanor between takes in order to stay in character. Despite the tension between the two actors, their dynamic on screen was undeniably powerful and captivating.
In “True Detective,” Harrelson and McConaughey portrayed a pair of detectives investigating a chilling murder case in rural Louisiana. The show received critical acclaim and won multiple Emmy Awards for its gripping storytelling and stellar performances.
During production, Harrelson suggested adding some humor to the dark narrative of the show, but McConaughey remained committed to the serious tone. Despite their differences in approach, the collaboration between the two actors resulted in a memorable and impactful series.
Even though “True Detective” Season 1 was a huge success, Harrelson stated in a recent interview that there is “no chance” of him and McConaughey reprising their roles for another season. He expressed his satisfaction with how the show concluded and believed that revisiting it would diminish its legacy.
While fans may never see Harrelson and McConaughey team up on screen again, their collaboration on “True Detective” will always be remembered as a groundbreaking and unforgettable television experience.
