Would-be chain thief slashes woman with razor on NYC train in latest transit chaos
A disturbing trend of violent attacks on New York City subway trains has left commuters on edge in recent weeks. The latest incident occurred on a northbound 2 train passing through the Pelham Parkway station in the Bronx, where a would-be chain thief slashed a female passenger with a razor. The attacker, described as a stranger believed to be in her 30s, instigated a fight with the victim before attempting to grab her chain. Fortunately, the victim was able to escape further harm as the suspect fled the scene.
In a separate and unrelated attack, a 13-year-old girl was choked by a female stranger wearing a pink coat on a Brooklyn train during the morning rush hour. The altercation took place on a G train at Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg, where the assailant grabbed the girl’s throat, making it difficult for her to breathe. The attacker quickly exited the train following the assault, leaving the victim shaken but ultimately treated for neck injuries.
These incidents add to a string of subway-related violence, including a recent stabbing on the southbound platform of the E and F train at the Union Turnpike station in Kew Gardens. Additionally, a man allegedly shoved a good Samaritan into a moving Harlem train, resulting in a broken back. Despite these alarming events, data from the NYPD shows a slight decrease in felony and misdemeanor assaults on the city’s transit system compared to previous years.
The safety of commuters remains a top priority for authorities as they continue to investigate and address these concerning incidents. Increased vigilance and awareness are encouraged for those using public transportation, with a focus on reporting suspicious behavior and seeking assistance when needed. The community’s cooperation and support are essential in maintaining a secure and peaceful environment for all passengers traveling throughout the city.
