XRP-linked firms secures full e-money License for EU

Ripple has recently announced that it has received full approval for an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from Luxembourg’s financial regulator, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). This approval paves the way for Ripple to expand its regulated payments services throughout the European Union.

After initially receiving “preliminary” approval last month, Ripple has now met all necessary conditions set by the CSSF, leading to the final authorization being granted. This milestone marks a significant step for Ripple in its mission to provide compliant blockchain infrastructure to clients across the EU.

Cassie Craddock, Managing Director, UK & Europe at Ripple, highlighted the strategic importance of Europe for the company, stating that the authorization enables Ripple to assist European businesses in transitioning to a more efficient, digital-first financial environment.

Building on its recent regulatory achievements in Europe, Ripple had previously obtained an EMI license and cryptoasset registration from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). These permissions allow Ripple to operate payments and crypto-related services in key jurisdictions.

The EMI license from Luxembourg will facilitate the acceleration of “Ripple Payments” across the EU, Ripple’s cross-border payments product designed for banks, fintechs, and enterprise clients. Luxembourg serves as a common base for regulated financial services in the EU, positioning Ripple to expand its services in various member states.

With a growing global license count exceeding 75, Ripple solidifies its position as one of the most heavily licensed companies in the crypto industry. This licensure aligns with the industry trend towards regulated, institution-facing use cases.
