Yankees’ Oswaldo Cabrera got married — in a walking boot
The New York Yankees’ Oswaldo Cabrera tied the knot with his fiancée Ari Gonzalez despite dealing with a season-ending ankle injury. The Venezuelan utilityman, who suffered a gruesome left ankle injury during a game in Seattle on May 12, married Gonzalez in a heartfelt ceremony on Tuesday.
During the game at T-Mobile Park, Cabrera stumbled while running home to score on a sacrifice fly, resulting in a fractured ankle. He was immediately taken off the field via ambulance and underwent surgery on May 18 to repair the injury. Despite being in a walking boot, Cabrera didn’t let his injury stop him from marrying the love of his life.
The couple had announced their engagement on March 13 and decided to take their relationship to the next level in a small and intimate setting. Cabrera, dressed in a tan jacket over a white shirt and pants, wore a white loafer on his right foot and his bulky boot on the other. Gonzalez looked stunning in a thigh-length white dress with forearm-length sleeves, radiating happiness on their special day.
Although Cabrera will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, he remains optimistic about his recovery and future with Gonzalez. Before his injury, Cabrera showcased his versatility on the field, playing in 34 games at different positions and contributing 11 RBIs while hitting .243.
The couple’s wedding photos, shared on their Instagram stories, captured the joy and love they share, despite the challenges they faced. As they embark on this new chapter in their lives, Cabrera and Gonzalez look forward to their honeymoon and a future filled with happiness and love.
