Yankees unravel late in brutal ALDS Game 1 loss to Blue Jays
The New York Yankees faced a tough loss in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays. Despite having opportunities to score, the Yankees fell short as the Blue Jays dominated the game with a final score of 10-1.
The game started off with the Blue Jays taking an early lead, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hitting a home run in the first inning. The Yankees had their chances to come back, including loading the bases in the sixth inning with no outs and Aaron Judge at the plate. However, Judge struck out, and the Yankees only managed to score one run in that inning.
Catcher Alejandro Kirk was a standout player for the Blue Jays, hitting two home runs during the game. The Yankees’ pitching staff struggled to contain the Blue Jays’ offense, with Luke Weaver, Fernando Cruz, and Paul Blackburn all giving up runs.
The Blue Jays’ starter, Kevin Gausman, was efficient on the mound, only needing 75 pitches to navigate through 5 ⅔ innings. The Yankees will look to bounce back in Game 2 with ace Max Fried taking the mound to avoid being on the brink of elimination as the series shifts back to Yankee Stadium.
Overall, it was a disappointing start to the series for the Yankees, but they will have the opportunity to regroup and come back stronger in the next game.
