‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Is Workmanlike CBS Procedural

“Marshals” – A Fresh Take on the “Yellowstone” Universe

“Marshals” is a new spinoff series from the popular show “Yellowstone,” but with a unique twist. Unlike the prequel series that delves into the history of the Dutton family, “Marshals” follows the youngest son, Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, after the events of the original show. This contemporary law enforcement procedural takes a departure from the usual Sheridan style, with Spencer Hudnut leading the way as the showrunner.

Kayce Dutton, a military veteran and husband to Monica, finds himself at a crossroads when his friend Pete Calvin offers him a position in the U.S. Marshals tactical unit. As he navigates his new role, Kayce must also cope with recent personal losses, adding layers to his character and motivations.

The show introduces a ragtag team of marshals, each with their own quirks and backgrounds. Belle, a former ATF operative, Andrea, a cop’s kid, and Miles, a local force member, join Kayce in tackling various assignments. Together, they face challenges ranging from anti-mine protests to drug deals, all while forming a bond in their makeshift field office.

While “Marshals” may lack the high drama of other Sheridan projects, it finds its strength in the dynamic between the characters and the unique setting of Broken Rock reservation. Gil Birmingham’s Thomas Rainwater adds gravitas to the show, bringing depth to the storyline and highlighting the tensions between the reservation and the locals.

With a focus on community protection and law enforcement, “Marshals” offers a refreshing take on the “Yellowstone” universe. While it may not have the flashy appeal of other Sheridan projects, its grounded approach and relatable characters make it a compelling watch for fans of the original show.

“Marshals” is set to premiere on CBS and Paramount+ Premium on March 1 at 8 p.m. ET, with subsequent episodes airing weekly on Sundays. Don’t miss out on this new chapter in the world of “Yellowstone.”
