5.9 Million Viewers Watched Season 27 Premiere
The highly-anticipated Season 27 premiere of “South Park” has garnered significant viewership, drawing in 5.9 million viewers across Paramount+ and Comedy Central in its first three days of availability. This marked the biggest linear premiere for the show since 1999 and made it the top telecast in all of cable on the Wednesday it premiered. Additionally, the episode achieved the show’s highest rating in the adults 18-49 demographic since 2022, with a 0.996 rating, up 15% from the previous season premiere.
An encore airing of the episode, titled “Sermon on the ‘Mount,” is scheduled to air tonight on Comedy Central, with a new episode set for August 6th. In the season premiere, series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone took a direct jab at President Donald Trump and his criticisms of Comedy Central’s parent company, Paramount Global. Trump is depicted in the episode in a similar manner to how the show portrayed Saddam Hussein, including being involved in a romantic relationship with Satan. The episode concludes with a satire PSA featuring a naked Trump wandering through the desert.
Parker and Stone recently inked a deal with Paramount Global for an additional 50 episodes of “South Park,” valued at $300 million per year for the next five years. As part of the deal, the entire “South Park” library has been moved to Paramount+, with new episodes available for streaming on the platform after their initial airing on Comedy Central. The show continues to push boundaries and tackle current events with its signature irreverent humor, keeping fans eagerly anticipating each new episode.
