626,540 Americans at Risk After Hackers Hit Healthcare Firm, Access Trove of Sensitive Data

US Healthcare Firm Discloses Cyberattack Affecting Over 600,000 Americans

ApolloMD, a US healthcare firm, has revealed that a staggering 626,540 Americans have been impacted by a recent cyberattack and subsequent data breach. The company made this disclosure in a recent filing with the Department of Health and Human Services Office.

Based in Georgia, ApolloMD offers physician practice management and multispecialty services to healthcare facilities and medical practices across 18 states.

The breach was first detected in May of last year when unusual activity was observed on the company’s network. Subsequent investigations uncovered that an unauthorized party had gained access to and potentially acquired files containing sensitive information of patients treated by ApolloMD’s affiliated physicians and practices.

Personal data at risk includes names, addresses, dates of birth, medical diagnoses, provider names, dates of service, treatment specifics, and health insurance details. Additionally, some individuals had their Social Security numbers compromised.

ApolloMD has taken swift action by initiating the notification process for affected patients starting on September 17th. The company has also offered complimentary credit monitoring services to individuals whose Social Security numbers may have been exposed.

To prevent future incidents, ApolloMD has implemented enhanced security measures and additional protocols to safeguard against similar breaches in the future.
