A Mother Jailed for Allegedly Stabbing 7-Year-Old Son Over Mess in Rogers Park Apartment

On Monday, prosecutors in Chicago accused a woman of stabbing her 7-year-old son after he made a mess in their Rogers Park apartment over the weekend. The incident led to the woman’s arrest at Evanston Hospital, where she had taken her son for treatment of a stab wound.

According to prosecutors, 26-year-old Llovana Torres stayed up late cleaning her apartment on Friday night, only to wake up on Saturday morning to find her son had made another mess. In response, she allegedly struck him multiple times, causing him to hide in a cabinet under the kitchen sink.

When her attempts to pull him out failed, Torres reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed him. The boy’s screams prompted her to take him to her mother’s apartment downstairs, who then advised her to seek medical help for the child.

The boy was transferred from Evanston Hospital to Lurie Children’s Hospital via air ambulance, where he remained on a ventilator. Torres allegedly confessed to hospital staff about stabbing her son and later claimed to the Chicago Police Department that it was an accidental injury.

During a court appearance, Judge Sabra Ebersole ordered Torres to be detained on a charge of aggravated battery of a child under 13.
