A tragic incident in Rajasthan, India: Seven children killed as school building roof collapses
NEW DELHI — A heartbreaking incident unfolded in India’s Rajasthan state as the roof of a government middle school building collapsed, resulting in the tragic deaths of seven children and leaving at least 21 others injured, confirmed a senior police official.
The unfortunate collapse occurred just as the students had gathered for their morning assembly, causing chaos and devastation among the school community, stated police official Amit Kumar.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the roof collapse, while frantic efforts were made by parents, teachers, and locals to rescue the trapped students from the rubble, as per local reports.
Local official Ajay Singh assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident, emphasizing the need for stricter safety measures in educational institutions. This particular school, located in Piplod village, was not identified as a high-risk structure prior to the tragedy.
The school caters to students up to eighth grade, and at the time of the collapse, approximately 35 students were present. Tragically, all seven fatalities were students from the higher grades, while the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the office of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed condolences to the affected families and pledged full support in the aftermath of the tragedy.
