Sailboat carrying 10 sinks after crashing into New Jersey jetty during rough seas
A sailboat crash near Avalon, New Jersey, led to the dramatic rescue of ten individuals on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the sailboat attempted to navigate the rough waters of the inlet, only to be pushed into the rocks of a jetty.
A distress call was made around 11 a.m. local time, prompting the Avalon Beach Patrol Chief Matt Wolf and his team to spring into action. Despite the dangerous conditions, the rescue team, along with EMS and water rescue swimmers, quickly responded to the scene.
Video footage captured the sailboat being battered by waves before ultimately becoming pinned against the rocks. The ten passengers on board, all wearing lifejackets, found themselves in a perilous situation as the boat began to sink.
Due to the treacherous waters, rescue swimmers were unable to enter the sea for a traditional rescue. Instead, a jet ski was utilized to safely transport the individuals to shore. The rescue operation was captured on video, showcasing the heroic efforts of the rescue team as they navigated the turbulent waters to save those in distress.
Chief Wolf described the intense situation, highlighting the fear and panic exhibited by the rescued individuals as they awaited help. Despite the harrowing circumstances, all ten passengers were successfully brought to safety without any injuries.
