OnePlus Pad Lite Review: Almost Brilliant Budget Tablet
The OnePlus Pad Lite is a budget-friendly tablet that offers a smooth user experience and impressive battery life. With a sleek design and clean software, it is a great option for everyday tasks like streaming, light gaming, and video calls. However, when compared to other tablets in its price range, it falls short in terms of technical specifications.
Design & Build:
The Pad Lite features a slim and sturdy design with a sleek Aero Blue finish. It is slightly heavier than some competitors but still easy to handle. The lack of a fingerprint scanner is a downside, and the placement of the speakers on the short edges can be inconvenient.
Screen & Speakers:
The tablet sports an 11-inch FHD+ LCD display with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. While the display is crisp and comfortable for everyday use, it doesn’t match up to the brightness and sharpness of some other tablets in its category. The four-speaker setup provides good audio quality, but the placement may result in muffled sound when holding the tablet in landscape mode.
Specs & Performance:
Powered by a MediaTek Helio G100 chipset and 8GB of RAM, the Pad Lite handles tasks like web browsing, streaming, and light gaming with ease. The Open Canvas multitasking feature allows for seamless use of two apps simultaneously. However, the lack of expandable storage and a headphone jack may be limiting for some users.
Cameras:
The tablet features basic 5MP front and rear cameras that deliver passable image quality in good lighting conditions. Detail and zoom performance are lacking, making it suitable only for casual use.
Battery Life & Charging:
The Pad Lite boasts an impressive 9,340mAh battery that can easily last a full day of use. However, the charging experience is slow out of the box, and a faster charger is not included in the package.
Software & Apps:
Running OxygenOS based on Android 15, the Pad Lite offers a clean and minimalist software experience. Some minor pre-installed software is present, but overall, the interface is smooth and bloat-free. Features like device mirroring and Kids Mode add value to the user experience.
Price & Availability:
The OnePlus Pad Lite is available in two configurations: a 6GB RAM + 128GB Wi-Fi model for £199 and an 8GB RAM + 128GB LTE variant for £229. Pre-orders are open on the OnePlus UK website, with a release date set for 14 August. Unfortunately, the Pad Lite will not be available in the US initially.
Should You Buy the OnePlus Pad Lite?
The OnePlus Pad Lite is a solid budget tablet that excels in basic tasks but falls short in some key areas compared to its competitors. While it offers a smooth user experience and long battery life, the lack of certain features like expandable storage and a fingerprint scanner may be a deal-breaker for some users. If you prioritize a clean software experience and tight integration with OnePlus devices, the Pad Lite could be worth considering. However, at its current price point, there are other tablets that offer better value for money.
