Tom Holland Wore His Grandma’s Fishnets for ‘Lip Sync Battle’

Tom Holland’s memorable performance on “Lip Sync Battle” was a true family affair, as revealed in a recent episode of Gordon Ramsay’s show, “Scrambled.” The “Spider-Man” star took fans behind the scenes of his iconic 2017 rendition of Rihanna’s hit song “Umbrella” on the Spike competition show.

Holland’s performance was a delightful surprise for the audience, starting off with a performance of “Singin’ in the Rain” before seamlessly transitioning into “Umbrella.” The actor made a bold statement by trading his suit for a dress, fishnets, and a wig during the performance, which he did alongside his fiancée Zendaya.

Reflecting on the performance, Holland shared, “It’s so funny, Zendaya and I, we were chatting at the time about what we were gonna do, and we had agreed that we would take it easy.” However, as they worked with the creative team, the idea to surprise the audience with “Umbrella” started to take shape.

As rehearsals progressed, Holland’s vision for the performance became more extravagant, culminating in the addition of a rain machine and a quick costume change. When Gordon Ramsay jokingly asked about his fishnet stockings, Holland revealed that they belonged to his grandmother.

Despite the playful nature of the performance, Holland admitted that his father initially had reservations about it. “When I told my dad, he was like, ‘Son, I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t think you should do that,'” Holland shared. His father’s concerns stemmed from a desire to protect his son from the pitfalls of sudden fame and ensure he maintained a sense of normalcy in his life.

Ultimately, Holland’s “Lip Sync Battle” performance showcased his playful and adventurous spirit, while also highlighting the support and guidance of his family. The actor’s willingness to take risks and push boundaries on stage exemplifies his commitment to entertaining audiences while staying true to himself.
