GOP Senator Spills On The Illegal Measure He Takes To Deal With DC Crime Fears

According to Mullin, car theft in Washington, D.C. is three times higher than the average state, as tracked by state in 2023. However, this statistic does not include carjacking, which involves violence or the threat of violence. The number of carjackings in D.C. appears to be decreasing since a spike in 2023.

Mullin emphasized that he does not buckle up while driving his Jeep in D.C. due to the prevalence of carjacking. He expressed concern about being stuck in his vehicle during a carjacking situation and referred to incidents involving people who work on Capitol Hill.

President Donald Trump recently made false claims about the crime rate in Washington, D.C., describing it as “totally out of control” and announcing plans to take control of the police force and deploy National Guard troops to the capital. This statement followed the arrest of two teens in connection with an attempted carjacking and assault of Edward “Big Balls” Coristine.
