Hayes Warner Joins Ryan Murphy’s ‘The Shards’ at FX
Hayes Warner has officially joined the cast of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel “The Shards” as a series regular, as confirmed by Variety. Warner will be appearing alongside Kaia Gerber, Igby Rigney, Homer Gere, and Graham Campbell in this FX thriller series.
“The Shards,” produced by 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Productions, tells the semi-autobiographical story of Ellis as a 17-year-old student at the prestigious Los Angeles private school Buckley in 1981. With minimal parental supervision, Ellis and his group of friends lead a reckless teenage lifestyle filled with drugs, sex, and alcohol. However, their world is turned upside down when a mysterious new student named Robert Mallory enters their lives and they begin to suspect his connection to a serial killer known as The Trawler.
In this series, Warner will take on the role of Debbie. A talented actor and singer hailing from New York, Warner is best known for her hit songs “Predator,” “Breadcrumbs,” “Shut Up,” and “Dead to Me,” which fuse catchy pop melodies with a rock edge. With a musical theater degree from Northwestern University, Warner has garnered millions of streams for her original music and has also contributed songs to projects like Netflix’s “The Barbie Chronicles” and Disney’s “The Descendants” franchise.
“The Shards” was first announced to be in development at FX in May, with Max Winkler directing. Alongside Murphy and Ellis, Winkler serves as an executive producer on the series, along with Nick Hall, Kathleen McCaffrey, and Brian Young. Interestingly, a previous adaptation of “The Shards” was in the works at HBO in 2023, with Ellis involved as a writer and executive producer. After changes in direction, Murphy took the helm of the project, leading to the current iteration.
While FX has yet to comment on the casting news, Deadline was the first to report Warner’s involvement in the series.
