Zohran Mamdani posts cheeky nod to ex-Adams advisor Winnie Greco’s cash-stuffed chip bag debacle: social media
Socialist Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani took to social media on Saturday to throw shade at Mayor Adams’ leadership, in a playful yet pointed manner.
Mamdani, a left-leaning state assemblyman, announced an unconventional scavenger hunt for his supporters through a quirky video that opens with a trail of potato chips laid out on a city sidewalk.
The video is a playful reference to the recent scandal involving Winnie Greco, a former advisor to Mayor Adams, who made headlines for handing a bag of potato chips filled with cash to a reporter.
In the video, Mamdani is seen sitting on a bench, holding a large bag of sour cream and onion-flavored Herr’s chips – the same brand that Greco allegedly stuffed with $300 cash and gave to a reporter from THE CITY.
“Hello my friends. I have a confession to make. I have something to hide. Many things, in fact, because we’re embarking on a scavenger hunt,” Mamdani announces in the video.
He goes on to introduce “Zohran’s Summer Scavenger Hunt,” set to take place across the city on Sunday afternoon.
“Here’s how it works: you’ll solve a series of clues all related to a specific theme in New York City history…at the final destination, you’ll discover a special surprise – not a bundle of cash – so be sure to follow through to the end,” Mamdani explains in the video shared on social media, accompanied by the caption, “Game on.”
At the conclusion of the video, Mamdani is shown cleaning up the potato chips.
Earlier in the week, disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo, now running for Mayor as an independent candidate, was spotted handing out bags of chips to reporters.
Despite the controversy surrounding the potato chip incident, Greco and her lawyer continue to maintain that it was a harmless gesture, dismissing allegations of bribery.
