Pushkin Industries Revs Fall Podcast Slate; Inside David Byrne’s Brain

Pushkin Industries is gearing up for a busy fall season with a diverse lineup of shows, leveraging the “network effect” that has been cultivated among its creators and hosts since its inception in 2018.

In a recent interview on the “Daily Variety” podcast, Eric Sandler, chief strategy officer for Pushkin, shared insights into the company’s business vision, growth strategies, and upcoming projects. One of the standout offerings from Pushkin’s slate is a retrospective on “The Big Short” with acclaimed author Michael Lewis. Pushkin will release the first audiobook edition of Lewis’ book, accompanied by a podcast hosted by Lewis himself, revisiting the events and key players of the 2008 mortgage crisis that inspired the 2015 Oscar-winning film.

Sandler emphasized the enduring relevance of content produced by Pushkin, citing the longevity of Lewis’ work and its ability to resonate with audiences even years after its initial release. He highlighted the company’s commitment to creating impactful storytelling that stands the test of time.

Another example of Pushkin’s “network effect” is demonstrated through Malcolm Gladwell’s “Revisionist History” series, specifically the episode titled “The Bomber Mafia” from 2021. This content was adapted into a Pushkin audiobook, which ultimately led to print rights being sold and a TV-film option by A24. Sandler underscored Pushkin’s role in providing a platform for storytellers to explore and expand their narratives across various mediums.

In addition to these exciting developments, Jem Aswad, Variety’s executive editor of music, shared his recent interview with iconic musician David Byrne. Aswad delved into Byrne’s eclectic career and unique approach to music and storytelling, offering readers a glimpse into the artist’s creative process and personal space.

Byrne’s office in downtown New York served as a reflection of his artistic vision, filled with shelves of vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, and various accolades. Aswad described the experience of meeting Byrne as akin to stepping into the mind of a creative genius who seamlessly blends music and storytelling in innovative ways.

Listeners can tune in to the “Daily Variety” podcast on iHeartPodcasts, Apple Podcasts, Variety’s YouTube channel, Amazon Music, Spotify, and other platforms to stay updated on the latest industry insights and interviews with top creators and innovators.

With a diverse range of content offerings and a commitment to fostering creative talent, Pushkin Industries continues to push the boundaries of storytelling and entertainment, setting the stage for a dynamic and engaging fall season.
