3Cat Unveils Ferran Adrià Bio, About the Chef Behind El Bulli
Ferran Adrià, the culinary maestro behind the renowned El Bulli restaurant, is about to have his life story brought to the small screen in a six-part scripted bio series. The project is a collaboration between 3Cat, a progressive Catalan public broadcaster based in Barcelona, Minoria Absoluta, known for productions like “The Teacher Who Promised the Sea” and “I Love You, Stupid”, and FishCorb Media, responsible for works such as “Waiting for Dalí”, “Seve”, and “Papillon”.
Netflix has secured the rights for Spain and Latin America, with the series delving into Adrià’s journey from an intern at El Bulli in 1983 to head chef in 1986. Known for his innovative culinary techniques like creating foam food and deconstructing dishes, Adrià revolutionized the world of gastronomy. His achievements include being featured on the cover of the New York Times in 2003 and receiving accolades from publications like The Guardian.
Despite the success, Adrià’s path to culinary greatness was not without sacrifices. The series aims to showcase his relentless work ethic, with Adrià dedicating long hours and days to his craft. It will also explore the competitive nature of the culinary world, highlighting both the admiration and rivalry Adrià faced throughout his career.
Beyond the culinary aspect, El Bulli’s allure also stemmed from its picturesque location overlooking Cala Montjoi on the Costa Brava, adding to the restaurant’s mystique. The series, composed of 50-minute episodes, is poised to not only celebrate Adrià’s culinary innovations but also promote Spanish film tourism as part of Catalunya’s gastronomic initiatives.
Production for the series is scheduled to commence on December 8, with a special unveiling event planned during the San Sebastián Film Festival’s Culinary Zinema. The title, teaser, premiere date, and key cast members will be revealed, including Catalan and international actors embodying pivotal figures in the haute cuisine revolution.
With a blend of stunning landscapes, delectable dishes, and a focus on true events, the series promises to offer a captivating viewing experience for audiences. Minoria Absoluta and FishCorb Media, known for their diverse range of productions, are set to bring Adrià’s culinary legacy to life on screen, showcasing the artistry and passion behind his culinary creations.
