There is a growing concern among conservatives that AI giant Anthropic, known for its popular Claude chatbot, has a left-wing bias and is facing potential conflict with the Trump administration, according to sources at The Post.

The San Francisco-based company, whose investors include the left-leaning Ford Foundation, has drawn attention for its decision to prohibit federal contractors from using its tools for certain law enforcement purposes, causing tensions with the White House. CEO Dario Amodei’s ties to the Democratic party have also raised suspicions that the company may be enforcing policies selectively based on political views.

Amid these developments, rival companies like OpenAI and xAI, led by figures like Sam Altman and Elon Musk, have been working to build positive relationships with the White House, leaving Anthropic in a precarious position.

Despite securing federal contracts and expressing support for the White House’s AI Action Plan, Anthropic’s association with left-leaning groups and its CEO’s critical comments about the Trump administration have strained its ties with key officials. The company has also faced criticism from other AI leaders for its warnings about the potential risks of AI technology.

While Anthropic has denied any rift with the Trump administration and emphasized its commitment to national security and democratic values, the company’s close ties to Democratic donors and left-leaning organizations continue to raise concerns among conservative circles.

Vice President JD Vance has even singled out the Ford Foundation, an investor in Anthropic, in his criticism of organizations that he believes are promoting violence, further complicating the company’s relationship with the current administration.

Anthropic has policies in place to prevent the use of its AI tools for direct domestic surveillance, but federal law enforcement agencies are utilizing them for research and analysis purposes.

Major AI companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google also have restrictions on the use of their AI tools for surveillance.

The Ford Foundation stated that they have no involvement in Anthropic’s management or operations as a passive investor.

Following an episode of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” Vance claimed that the Ford Foundation and Open Society Foundations had funded The Nation magazine, which was denied by both organizations.

Vance has pledged to target progressive groups he believes are inciting left-wing violence, with The Nation being a part of his focus.
