Long Island teen golfer runs putt challenge for hospital that saved his life as a baby

Skylar Friedman, a talented high school golfer from Long Island, has been hitting hole-in-ones not just on the golf course, but also in the realm of fundraising. At just 17 years old, he has raised over $700,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he underwent a life-saving lung operation as an infant.

Friedman’s journey began with the creation of the “100 Putt Challenge,” a fundraising initiative that allows golfers from across the US to pledge money based on the number of 6-foot putts they sink out of 100. The concept is simple yet effective, and has garnered support from a wide range of participants, from amateur golfers to professionals.

Despite his young age, Friedman has already raised over $66,000 towards his latest goal of $250,000. Over the past seven years, he has tirelessly worked towards giving back to the hospital that saved his life, showcasing his unwavering dedication and passion for helping others.

Doctors discovered an abnormal mass in his lungs during an ultrasound, which posed a serious threat to his health. Thanks to the specialized care at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, he underwent a successful surgery at just 5 months old, removing the bottom of his lung and allowing him to live a healthy life.

Throughout his frequent visits to the hospital for follow-up care, Friedman has been inspired by the kindness and compassion of the staff. He has taken on a role as a youth advisor and has given speeches on patient care, aiming to make a difference beyond just fundraising.

With the support of his golf trainer, Adam Laird, Friedman has expanded his fundraising efforts, organizing golf marathons and remote putt challenges to reach a wider audience.
