Beloved NYC sports bar celebrates 30 years in business

Mustang Harry’s, a popular Midtown sports bar, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a series of events to honor its loyal patrons and the community it has built over the years. Owned by brothers Ian and Niall Conroy, the bar has become a home away from home for many of its regulars.

Inspired by their family’s pub in County Tipperary, Ireland, Mustang Harry’s has a strong sense of community and hospitality. The Conroy brothers have treated their patrons like family, with many of them coming in for lunch multiple times a week. In fact, the bar has become a gathering place for friends and neighbors, creating a tight-knit group of regulars.

To celebrate its 30 years on Seventh Avenue, Mustang Harry’s is hosting a series of events, including a New York Rangers watch party, live music, and giveaways. They are also offering 1995 menu prices on Friday and Saturday, with cocktails like White Russians and Greyhounds for $9 and brews starting at 95 cents. This is their way of giving back to the community and making people feel at home in the bar.

Despite facing challenges like the September 11 attacks and Hurricane Sandy, Mustang Harry’s has always been a safe haven for its neighbors. During Hurricane Sandy, the bar remained open to provide a place for people to charge their phones, use the restrooms, or simply sit down free-of-charge. This sense of Irish hospitality has been a key part of the bar’s identity.

The COVID-19 pandemic presented a new challenge for the business, with lunch still not fully recovering to pre-pandemic levels. However, the Conroy brothers are optimistic about the future as more Midtown workers return to office buildings. They are grateful for the support of their loyal regulars and the help of Madison Square Garden, which has been a significant source of business for the bar.

Overall, Mustang Harry’s stands out among Midtown watering holes for its sense of community, hospitality, and love of sports. The Conroys have created a unique blend of American and Irish culture, making the bar a favorite among basketball, football, and hockey fans alike. As they celebrate 30 years in business, the brothers look forward to many more years of serving their loyal patrons and welcoming new faces into the Mustang Harry’s family.
