Chilling footage shows ‘Wild West’ moment NYPD cop fatally shoots gun-toting maniac
The shocking moment when an NYPD officer shot a gun-wielding man who had threatened to shoot up Mount Sinai Hospital was captured in chilling surveillance footage. The incident unfolded on Madison Avenue between East 95th and 96th streets late Thursday night.
The video showed the gunman, identified as 20-year-old Elijah Brown, casually walking with his weapon in hand before suddenly turning around and firing at the approaching officers. In response, at least one officer returned fire, causing Brown to collapse on the sidewalk. Despite the officers’ attempts to assist him, Brown was later pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
According to NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera, Brown’s rampage began when he brandished a firearm in an elevator of a residential building on Madison Avenue between East 106th and 107th streets. He then fled to a nearby deli on East 107th Street, where he pointed the gun at a worker and declared his intention to shoot up the hospital.
After stealing the deli worker’s phone, Brown headed south on Madison Avenue and entered Mount Sinai Medical Center, only to leave briefly and place his firearm outside. Upon re-entering the hospital, he encountered an NYPD officer working a security detail and began acting erratically, leading to a scuffle.
The situation escalated when Brown retrieved his firearm from outside and shot at the off-duty officer, prompting a call for backup. The shootout occurred on a busy sidewalk, with civilians in close proximity, highlighting the danger faced by law enforcement officers in such situations.
Chief Rivera emphasized the gravity of the incident, noting that Brown’s actions posed a significant threat to public safety. Despite Brown having no prior arrests, the swift and decisive actions of the NYPD officers prevented further harm.
The harrowing events captured in the surveillance footage underscore the risks faced by law enforcement officers in confronting armed individuals intent on causing harm. The bravery and quick response of the NYPD officers in neutralizing the threat prevented a potentially devastating outcome.
