Eunice Wu, a 26-year-old pharmacist, was fed up with the endless data entry and administrative work that consumed her day. Teaming up with Can Uncu, a 25-year-old she met in a Canadian accelerator program, they founded Asepha. This startup uses AI software to process handwritten prescriptions and verify medical codes, freeing up pharmacists from mundane tasks and allowing them to focus on patient care. In just two years, Asepha has secured over $4 million in venture funding.

Another dynamic duo on the list is Jeffery Liu and Jon Wang, both 28, founders of Assort Health. They tackled the challenge of scheduling doctor appointments over the phone by developing a text-to-voice AI-enabled chatbot. This innovation has significantly reduced wait times for millions of inbound calls, benefiting both patients and physicians.

AI is a recurring theme among this year’s honorees. Jocelyn Kang and Caroline Zhang, founders of Knowtex, are automating clinical workflows with AI, while James Hu and Jhoneldrick Millares of Illumant Surgical are using AI and computer vision to enhance image-guided surgical procedures. Jeremy Barenholz, 27, co-founder of Nudge, is developing a device that uses focused ultrasound to image and stimulate deep brain regions non-invasively. Madeline Eiken and Charlie Childs, both 28, founders of Intero Biosystems, are growing miniature human intestines in the lab to test medications, potentially offering an alternative to animal testing.

The list also includes standout medical researchers like Bradley Pierce, a 29-year-old general surgery resident physician at the U.S. Army, who developed a life support system for traumatic abdominal hemorrhages. Arya Rao, a 24-year-old MD-Ph.D. candidate at Harvard and MIT, is researching gene therapies to expedite drug development.
