Car thief steals Porsche, crashes into three cars and flips over in Midtown

A man with a history of assault charges found himself in hot water once again after allegedly stealing a woman’s Porsche SUV in Midtown Manhattan. Calvin Jones, 40, was hit with multiple charges following the incident, which occurred on a busy Friday afternoon.

The car theft took place when a 39-year-old woman left her 2022 Porsche running on 15th Street and Union Square East. The victim quickly notified the police, who were able to track the stolen vehicle using an app on her cell phone. Jones, who has two prior arrests for assault, was located by the police as he attempted to flee the scene.

In his attempt to escape, Jones crashed the stolen Porsche into three other vehicles—a 2019 Audi sedan, a 2016 Audi SUV, and a 2024 Cadillac SUV. Fortunately, the occupants of the Cadillac, two men aged 30 and 56, and a 39-year-old woman, were unharmed in the collision.

The stolen Porsche ultimately flipped over, resulting in Jones being hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. He was subsequently arrested and charged with a laundry list of offenses, including grand larceny auto, criminal possession of stolen property, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless driving, and driving without a license.

The chaotic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of car theft and reckless driving on the streets of New York City. It also highlights the importance of taking precautions to prevent such crimes, such as never leaving a vehicle running unattended. Police are continuing to investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served for the victims involved.
