Devon Aoki’s husband charged with hit-and-run after striking Florida scooter rider
The spouse of actress Devon Aoki, known for her role in “2 Fast 2 Furious,” is facing legal trouble after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run incident in Coral Gables, Florida. James Bailey, 40, was accused of running over the foot of a scooter rider with his white Audi SQ7 SUV and then fleeing the scene to his $9.1 million mansion.
The incident occurred when Bailey hit the scooter rider in a crosswalk, causing the victim to sustain serious injuries, including two foot fractures. Video footage captured the rider’s foot trapped under the SUV’s tire as he pleaded for Bailey to move the vehicle. Despite the victim’s girlfriend’s frantic pleas, Bailey reversed the Audi, knocking the man to the ground, before speeding away without providing any assistance or information to the authorities.
Authorities were able to track down Bailey and his vehicle through license plate readers and police cameras. When police arrived at his mansion, Aoki claimed not to know the whereabouts of the Audi. However, Bailey arrived at the scene shortly after and attempted to evade the officers by running into the house and locking himself inside. Eventually, he surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody.
The Audi showed minor damage consistent with a collision with a pedestrian on a stand-up scooter. Bailey was charged with hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury and resisting arrest without violence. He appeared in court the following day and was released on a $7,500 bond.
Devon Aoki, who starred in “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Sin City,” has since retired from acting. She is now focused on her family life with Bailey, with whom she shares four children. Aoki’s last on-screen appearance was in a 2016 documentary about her brother, Steve Aoki, a renowned DJ and record producer.
The couple’s relationship has been in the spotlight since their marriage in 2011. Despite this legal setback, they continue to navigate their personal and professional lives together.
