Healthcare Firm Handing $2,000,000+ To Customers After Data Breach Exposes ‘Highly Confidential’ Information of 512,000 People

A recent settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against a US healthcare firm regarding a data breach that occurred in February 2024. Consulting Radiologists has agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle the lawsuit, which alleged that the firm failed to adequately protect the sensitive information of approximately 512,000 individuals.

The breach exposed personal data such as names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and medical and health insurance information. As part of the settlement, individuals who can provide documentation of out-of-pocket losses resulting from the breach may receive up to $5,000 by filing a claim. Those whose Social Security numbers were compromised could receive up to $125, while individuals whose numbers were not exposed may be eligible for up to $50. Additionally, victims of the breach will have access to free credit monitoring services valued at nearly $480 for two years.

Claims for reimbursement must be submitted by March 2nd, with a final approval hearing scheduled for February 25th. Despite agreeing to the settlement, Consulting Radiologists denies any liability or wrongdoing in relation to the claims made in the lawsuit.
