25 are dead and 14 more missing after boat capsizes in Nigeria’s Yobe state
Tragedy Strikes Yobe, Nigeria — A tragic incident occurred in northern Nigeria’s Yobe state as a passenger boat capsized, resulting in the loss of at least 25 lives with 14 individuals still missing, as reported by emergency services on Sunday.
The ill-fated boat was transporting locals who were returning from the market, engaged in fishing, or farming activities when it tragically overturned along the Yobe River in Garbi town on Saturday night, according to the Yobe emergency management agency.
Among the 52 passengers aboard the boat, 13 were fortunate to be rescued and are currently receiving necessary medical attention, stated the agency.
The agency emphasized, “Search and rescue efforts are underway, with collaborative efforts from security forces, emergency responders, and local volunteers to locate the missing passengers and retrieve the deceased.”
