McIlroy leads by one stroke after first round at Dubai Invitational

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, golf fans were treated to an exciting first round of the Dubai Invitational. Rory McIlroy took the lead with a solid 5-under 66, showing his skill and prowess on the course. Scotsman Connor Syme and Spaniard David Puig were hot on his heels, tied for second place. English golfer Matt Wallace had a strong start but struggled towards the end, falling two shots back into a five-way tie for third.

Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood was also in the mix, three shots behind McIlroy in a tie for ninth place. The tournament marked the return of the European tour after a hiatus, with a total purse of $2.75 million up for grabs.

McIlroy got off to a blazing start with four birdies in the first five holes, setting the tone for his round. Meanwhile, Wallace showed flashes of brilliance with an eagle on the fourth hole but faltered with late bogeys that cost him the lead.

Fleetwood faced some early setbacks but managed to finish strong with two birdies to stay in contention. The Dubai Invitational is a biennial event, with the last edition two years ago witnessing a dramatic duel between Fleetwood and McIlroy.

Looking ahead, the Dubai Desert Classic is up next on the golfing calendar, a tournament that McIlroy has dominated in the past. With his previous successes in Dubai, McIlroy will be looking to add another title to his impressive resume.
