ChatGPT’s free ride is ending. What OpenAI plans for advertising
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — OpenAI has announced plans to introduce advertisements to non-paying users of ChatGPT in order to generate revenue from its large user base.
While ads have not yet been implemented, the artificial intelligence company stated that they will begin testing them in the near future.
This move is part of OpenAI’s strategy to monetize ChatGPT, which boasts over 800 million users, the majority of whom access the platform for free.
Despite being valued at $500 billion, the company has been operating at a loss and is seeking ways to become profitable.
According to OpenAI, the ads will be displayed at the bottom of ChatGPT’s responses “when there’s a relevant sponsored product or service related to the ongoing conversation.”
The company assured users that the ads will be clearly identified and separated from the regular chat responses.
