New York Stock Exchange to Launch Tokenized Securities Platform, Unlocking 24/7 Trading and Stablecoin-Based Funding
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is on the brink of introducing a groundbreaking tokenized securities platform that promises to revolutionize trading with 24/7 accessibility and stablecoin-based funding. This innovative platform, pending regulatory approval, is set to offer instant settlement and the ability to place orders in dollar amounts.
The NYSE’s ambitious project will pave the way for a new venue that will facilitate trading for tokenized shares of traditional securities, as well as tokens issued as digital securities. NYSE Group President Lynn Martin expressed the exchange’s commitment to modernizing market operations in a recent announcement, stating, “We are leading the industry toward fully on-chain solutions, grounded in the unmatched protections and high regulatory standards that position us to marry trust with state-of-the-art technology. Harnessing our expertise to reinvent market infrastructure is how we’ll meet and shape the demands of a digital future.”
In preparation for this groundbreaking initiative, NYSE’s parent company, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), is exploring the integration of tokenized collateral. Collaborating with banking giants BNY Mellon and Citigroup, ICE aims to support tokenized deposits across its clearinghouses.
This move by NYSE follows a similar push by its competitor, the Nasdaq Stock Market, which recently filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to extend its equities trading hours to 23 hours a day, five days a week.
